Symposium on Gender and Community Leadership

Anne McMurray comes to us from Belfast in Northern Ireland.
She will be presenting new thought-provoking material and guiding the workshop process with local facilitators from Anglophone, Francophone and Aboriginal communities.
Anne specializes in leadership, organization and team development, and is passionate about supporting women to realize their potential and take up their leadership role in business, management and public life in Northern Ireland. This has been a core area of her work since the 1990s.
She has worked with women leaders in all sectors including elected members and senior officers in Belfast City Council. She has provided career planning development for women across all local councils in Northern Ireland through the Local Government Staff Commission. She has carried out research for local councils into the barriers to access and promotion for women.
She is an executive mentor and coach for senior women leaders in the private, public and third sectors, in Ireland north and south. Anne developed the Invest NI Strategy for Investing in Women which was aimed at helping more women in Northern Ireland to set up and grow their own businesses. She was awarded the MBE in 2008 for this work. In a voluntary capacity she is chair of East Belfast Partnership.
Anne delivered the Leadership Specialization Curriculum Pathway for the Atlantic Summer Institute on Healthy and Safe Communities in 2007. We are pleased to have her with us once again this summer. Welcome back Anne!!
