Domestic Violence Action Plan Discussion Session
Where: Superstore, The Community Room, 2nd Floor, 46 Elm Street, Truro, Nova Scotia
When: November 25- November 25, 2011
The Domestic Violence Action Plan was announced by the Government of Nova Scotia in December 2010 and outlines initiatives to prevent and reduce domestic violence. The plan is strategic, comprehensive and targeted to create positive change. The Plan takes a coordinated approach to addressing domestic violence. It identifies “working smarter” as a priority item and states that a key way to work smarter “is to promote collaborative partnerships among government, government departments and community-based agencies with expertise in domestic violence and intervention”. In order to support these partnerships, government has indicated it will commit to “co-facilitate regular networking sessions to share expertise and knowledge and work collaboratively to respond to problems and opportunities as they arise.”
When it comes to the question of how best to network with community in an efficient and inclusive way, it is imperative to seek input from the unique community groups that are involved in issues relating to domestic violence and intervention. We want to engage community groups in an inclusive way to seek feedback that will to help guide and shape the process that will be later employed. A series of discussion sessions are planned to take place across the province.
You are invited to attend a discussion session in Truro on November 25 from noon to 2:30 (lunch will be provided for participants) at The Community Room, 2nd floor at the Superstore, 46 Elm Street. At that session, discussions will take place with service providers on how government can enhance networking opportunities with community. Feedback is appreciated. The session will involve a facilitated discussion with other service providers in a group setting.
