Operation Graffiti Wipeout

Operation Graffiti Wipeout is a program designed to involve youth and other community members and will promote responsibility and pride in beautifying the city. This is an effort to remove graffiti from Summerside.
Research has shown that Graffiti;

  • Lowers house and property value
  • Promotes additional property damage and litter in graffiti areas
  • Costs taxpayers
  • Areas give a public perception of(danger, negative, unsafe)
  • Often leads graffiti vandals to more criminal activities (gateway crime)

The Summerside Community Safety Advisory Committee in conjunction with The Youth Intervention Outreach Program (Youth Justice Services – Department of Labour,Environment, and Justice), City of Summerside, and Summerside Police Services is asking all property owners to remove all graffiti from their property.
The week of June 11-17, 2012 has been designated Operation Graffiti Wipeout Week. Graffiti removal crews will be out andabout to help cover or remove graffiti.If you are a property owner who requires assistance in removing graffiti please call Dave Ellis (432-1343). Arrangements can bemade to assist you.

  • If you have an area where painting over graffiti would work best, you provide the paint and a crew will paint it.
  • If your graffiti needs to be removed by other means, some graffiti removal supplies may be available to assist you.

For those involved in graffiti vandalism,Operation Graffiti Wipeout is a two component program. It is designed to have:

  1. Participation in the removal of graffiti in our city.
  2. Attendance at an educational session to learn about the affects of graffiti in our city and also to encourage those with artistic ability to use their artistic skills in a productive way.
