Another Successful ACSA Conference!

On June 2nd, the 24th Annual Crime Prevention Conference in Memramcook, New Brunswick kicked off with an Acadian themed evening, featuring authentic Acadian Foods.  Charlie A’Court, Nova Scotia’s top entertainer at the 2009 Music Nova Scotia Awards, entertained the crowd with his unique musical talent.

Thursday, June 3rd was a full day of workshops and plenary presentations which were focused on the conference theme: Exploring Opportunities: Mental Illness, Addiction and Community Safety.  Much reflection and consideration was given to reaching out to complex youth, street level intervention with emotionally disturbed people, drugs, alcohol and community safety, and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A lovely banquet was held, and all were welcomed by the Minister of Public Safety New Brunswick, the Honorable John Foran. After the banquet, educational entertainment was provided by Mitch Dorge, the drummer from the band Crash Test Dummies.  Mitch goes to schools all across North America encouraging teens not to use drugs or alcohol.

The conference came to a close on Friday, June 4th and featured several more stimulating workshops and an informative closing plenary.

Attendees stated that they had learned something new, the knowledge they acquired would be used in their own work, and they would share what they learned with others. Clearly the 2010 conference proved to be a successful knowledge transfer event.

Participants also left the conference feeling inspired and motivated.
